At ashgrove, our 'DNA' is critically important. It is the essence of who we are; it shapes what we do and how we do it. It helps us determine our priorities. We are:
Seeking to be authentic followers of Jesus ... We are a Baptist Church with an evangelical theology committed to the great commandment (Matt 22:37-39) and the great commission (Matt 28:19-20).
Committed to empowering people not controlling them (Eph 2:1-6; 4:11-13)
A place where you can belong ... We are committed to the idea that the Church is a family where people can belong as opposed to place where consumers visit (1 Cor 12:21-27).
Expectant of growth ... We recognise that God has a desire to see people come to know Him and therefore it is natural to anticipate numerical and spiritual growth (Col 1:6).
'Missional' in our mindset and 'incarnational' in our practice ... We recognise that in this world we have to 'be and go' and not rely simply on 'attractional' methods but engage with people in Jesus name (Matt 28:19,20).
Intentional ... being intentional implies deliberateness, not serendipity. It suggests thinking and acting strategically (Acts 13:4,5; 16:6-10).
Willing to live with the tension of: Pursuing unity in diversity (Rom 14:1-4) | Having a 'global responsibility' and a 'local presence' (Acts 1:8) | Being communities within a community (Acts 15:1-35) | Simultaneously being a 'living organism' and an 'organisation' (Acts 6:1-6)
Our Mission is what we believe God has called us to do as a church.
An equipping and sending church committed to presenting the changeless gospel of Jesus Christ in a changing world
If we are to be consistent with our 'DNA' and achieve 'our mission' then we recognise the need to be focused and to have clear outcomes in mind.
