A Day in the Life of Helen

We all know Helen Murchie is a Pastoral Carer at ashgrove, but what exactly does that mean? What does she do? We take a glimpse into a day in the life of Helen to find out more...
9.00 - 12.30 No one day is the same. Today I go to the retirement village to visit the a number of the ashgrove community who are no longer able to attend worship gatherings. Accompanying me are two ladies from ashgrove, who have known these folk for a long time and enjoy a cuppa and a chat with them.
12.00 - 1.00 Meet up with someone for lunch, to offer friendship and encouragement as they go through a rough time.
1.00 - 2.00 Contact people via email and phone to arrange enough quality childminders at an upcoming workshop 'Couples in Life'. I am very humbled by the willingness of people to help with anything that I ask for.
2.00 - 2.30 Working at ashgrove means spending time with some amazing people. I take some time in the office to chat to the awesome members of the ministry team, who are a huge encouragement to me in my personal and work life. They help me perfect my speaking skills and plan my campaign to become Julia Gillards stand in/double should the need ever arise.
2.30 - 3.30 Spend some time printing and sending out invitations to a morning tea for young Mums, emailing and posting out the new Emergency Meal Roster, and calling people to see how they are and check on their general welfare.
3.30 - 3.45 A quick cuppa with Lorraine Pfeffer to discuss requirements at workshop and general care issues.
3.45 -4.30 Off to the shops to purchase supplies for the 'Couples in Life' workshop.
4.30 - 5.00 Deliver a meal to a family experiencing a stressful time and pass on a prayer point on for inclusion in the prayer chain.
Being a Pastoral Carer is challenging but also extremely rewarding. It is very exciting to see how God works and guides me to where he wants me to serve each day. Everyday I need to rely on Him to lead me in my work, to care and love for the ashgrove community.
