A day in the life of Stew; the missions guy!
We catch up with Stewart Beveridge to see what a 'missions guy' gets up to during the day....
6am-7am Is my time; a quiet cup of tea and devotions (reading through Proverbs at the moment - so much good stuff in there for life) before I give Sonja her wakeup cuppa @ 7 (yep, every morning!)
7am-9am Sonja and I share the "get the family out the door on time" duties. Two get on the bus at 7.30am and then One in the car to Everton Park by 8.25 before I head into the office.
9am-10am I am usually in the Playcentre to support the team, help with setup, talk with the parents as they come through the door. I try to talk to the Dad's each day at Playcentre - there is at least one dad a day who comes to play with their little charges.
10am-12noon I head up to the High School for Spirituality with the Year 10 students. We use large group/small group activities to explore the big issues of life at an introductory level. Most teens have an opinion about the ideas that motivate their lives - they just need a safe place to discuss them.
12pm-3pm RE @ Oakleigh Primary school. I teach the Year 6 & 7 classes where I have two separate curriculum (just the way the cookie crumbles!) to three classes. It is a lot of fun - I've gotten to know the 7's pretty well from last year's class and enjoy fielding their questions of genuine enquiry as they apply timeless truth to life.
3pm-5pm Office time! Time for email, calls and admin stuff that needs my attention. Although my mobile phone is on through the day, its not the same as being with the team. I am planning for training, activities and events that connect Ashgrove people with the local church (that's you!) - short term mission, evangelism training, discipleship and mentoring are all pathways to conversations about faith, hope and love.
Evenings through the week are a mix of family times, training courses, and mentoring people. Leading the local mission team at ashgrove is very rewarding and constantly changing - no two days are the same! I love meeting people in the mix of life and seeing how God reveals himself in that moment.
