Fit for mission

Bootcamp has been on everybody's lips over the last two weeks. With just over one week to go before all the fundraising and fitness fun happens, we decided to catch up with Ben Fox and Daniel Yates, two men ready to make a difference - to the Karen people of Thailand and to the waistlines of ashgrove.
Firstly tell us why is a team going to Thailand?

Ben: We are going to Thailand to build up the partnership between Ashgrove Baptist Church and the Karen Baptist in Chian Mia.

What will the team be doing at Thailand?

Daniel:  The 17 strong team from ABC are travelling to Thailand to assist the completion of the most recent of one of these hostels, to learn more about Karen culture and challenges and to establish more enduring relationships with the local leaders.

Ben: We will be spending some time working with a youth hostel in Chiang Mia, also in Omkoi Village, helping with building a toilet block.

How did you come up with the idea for a bootcamp?

Daniel: We seek win-win solutions. Participants get fit and their funds go to helping the mission.

So what exactly does a boot camp involve?

Daniel: We will primarily be running a team-based body circuit. That is, most exercises will require little equipment and able to completed by people of all fitness levels (so training participants in exercises they can use outside the program and for the rest of their life to keep fit). Anyone can find out more details by showing up to the first training session.

Do you have to be super fit already to do it?

Daniel: The only requirement is that you have a heartbeat and a desire to be fitter, stronger or healthier. It is for all ages, genders, fitness levels and previous experience. The less fit you are the more you will get out of it. All participants will be able to work at their own pace to allow their body to be all God intended it to be.

Ben: Anyone can do it. It is not only for the super fit. The programme will be tailored to suit everyone's needs - 12yrs-85yrs, male/female, marathon runner or elite tv watcher. We want to see them!

How long is each session?

Daniel: 60 minutes (total including warm up, warm down, etc)

When is it? Please don't say early mornings...

Ben: The boot camp will be on Wednesday (6am - 7:30am)  and Sunday mornings  (7am-8:30am) starting 13th of October.

Well that's not too early I guess...after all it is only for 8 weeks. Okay, so where is it?

Daniel: Outdoors - in public areas such as parks. (Ben to detail times and first location)

Ben: It will be taking place at Gregory Park (MILTON), near Grill'd Rosalie.

When is the last date to register?

Ben: There is no last date, obviously the 10th is the last Sunday before is starts. But if we get 2 wks in and someone wants to start they are more than welcome. We will just cut the costs a bit.

Aything else?

Ben: It will be totally awesome. All funds are a donation to the team.

Daniel: It'll be MUCH more fun than anyone can imagine! There is simply no better way to start any day than exercise.
