Cricket, carols & christmas@ashgrove

Santa Clause - The origin of Santa Clause began in the 4th century with Saint Nicholas, the Bishop of Myra. Apparently he was a very generous man and was particularly devoted to children. His reputation for generosity helped fuel claims that he could perform miracles and people's devotion increased.

Christmas Trees - In Germany in the 16th Century, fir trees were decorated with applies, roses and coloured paper.  In the Middle Ages a popular religious play depicted the story of Adam and Eve and used a fir tree hung with apples to symbolise the Garden of Eden. The play would end with the prophecy of a Savior coming, and was performed during the festive season.

Boxing Day Traditions - Aussie cricket fans get excited for The Boxing Day Test which was first played in 1950. Since 1945, Australia  has watched on Boxing Day to see who will sink and who will speed on to win the Sydney to Hobart Yacht race.

Carols by Candlelight- This tradition started in 1937. Because of our great weather, Australians are able to enjoy the fun of gathering together to sing carols whilst holding candles - or in ashgrove's case glowsticks!

Christmas time seems to be the time for tradition. We spend Christmas day with our families, carrying out our own personal traditions. It may be that you are the first person to get up on Christmas morning, or that you always, and I mean always, have a roast turkey, no matter the summer heat!  At ashgrove, our tradition is to give a gift to our community by hosting christmas@ashgrove.

Like all good traditions, christmas@ashgrove will have the same fabulous fun as always. There will be carols, a roving magician, a baby animal nursery and a big screen playstation. There may even be a reappearance from last year of those colourful singing men!

Now, don't think because it is a tradition, it will be boring. There are lots of laughs planned, with a night program packed full of entertainment and comedy. And when the evening draws to an end, finish it off with gourmet coffee and ice cream under the stars.

So ashgrove, get excited. Invite your friends, family, neighbours, facebook friends. Tweet about it, text about it and type about it.  Let's make this year's christmas@ashgrove a tradition that will become legendary! If Saint Nick could do it, so can we!

If you are free to help on the day, people are still needed for the pamper tent, and to help set up @1pm and packdown @8.30pm.
