Girls Think Pink...

Pink Girls' Gathering flyers have become a regular sight around the ashgrove church over the past year. Lately there have been women whispering about yet another event being hosted, this time to help women worldwide. Wanting to know more, we asked Jenny Cox to shed some light on what happens when women and girls of all ages gather together to think pink.
Firstly, tell us what inspired you to organise a gathering just for girls?
"Last year a number of people commented on the fact that it is difficult to develop friendships and build community in a large church and although home groups often fulfill this function, not everybody is able to be in a home group. I was also conscious that we don't have a specific ministry to women at ashgrove. ..I felt I was being led to initiate some opportunities where women from ashgrove could build more community and share their faith journeys."
Okay, the big question... what exactly do girls do when they gather?
"The program this year focused on offering a variety of events/activities at various times, so that women could 'get together' to enjoy an activity and build relationships. Some involved simply having coffee and a chat, while others centered on cultural activities, recreational/sports events, shopping at markets, cooking, child development and some with a specific spiritual focus."
Now we've been asked to think pink? Why?
"Because the next Girls Gathering is going to be a fundraising breakfast for the National Breast Cancer Foundation!!"
So a Breast Cancer Brekky? Tell us more!
"We chose to support Breast Cancer as this is well known in the community and of course it is a topic which is particularly relevant for all women! This is going to be the final gathering for the year as it provides an opportunity to meet and connect once again, an opportunity to invite friends and work colleagues and an opportunity to give back to the community by raising funds for medical research."
And the inspirational guest speaker?
"The guest speaker will be Dr Sue Colen. Sue is an experienced GP who will be sharing about her personal journey of having to come to terms with breast cancer herself. She is a Christian and will be happy to answer questions at the end of her talk from both a medical and personal point of view."
Where and when?
"It will be held in the ashgrove auditorium on Saturday 23rd October at 8am. After canvassing several venues we decided to hold it at ashgrove because we can minimise the costs and thus raise more money and because it was an opportunity to raise people's awareness of our church and its community."
...and on the menu?
"We hope to provide a sumptuous breakfast of mouth watering muffins, perfect pastries, fabulous fruit and yummy yoghurts. Tea and fine coffee will also be available. The first cup is included in ticket price and then additional coffees will be available for $3 - with profits going towards the Breast Cancer Foundation."
So I can contribute just by drinking coffee, excellent! How else?
By being there! Save the date in your diary and get ready to invite all the women you know! We want as many there as possible, not only to ensure a great morning of girls' gathering, but also to generate as much support for the Breast Cancer Foundation as possible. Pink merchandising from the NBCF will also be available for purchase so women planning to come are encouraged to bring their wallets and further support this excellent cause.
Tickets for the breakfast will go on sale in October at a cost of $20 per person. Entry will be by prepaid tickets.
