Did you know...

Every Saturday from March to September, men and women from ashgrove pull up their socks and take to the fields. Yep, that's right, ashgrove has soccer teams!

This year ashgrove boasted three teams; a Men's divison 1 team and two Ladies division 2 teams, one affectionately known as the Ashgrove Grovers. The teams are mainly made up for young adults but ages range from 15 to 40+ and are comprised of players from ashgrove, other churches and people from the community (friends of friends etc). The teams play under the Baptist Football Queensland Association competition.

ashgrove has had soccer teams on and off for the last 15-20 years, with many successful seasons. This year the Men's team placed second on the competition ladder, but were knocked out in the semi final.

The Grover girls had a bit of a rough beginning, with their entire jerseys and team kit being stolen at their first training session. However thanks to the generous donation, the girls were soon kitted up in new jerseys and ready to show their competitors just what the ashgrove girls are made of! They placed third on their compeition ladder and made it to the prelimary finals.

ashgrove soccer is more than just a chance to score some goals, get some grass stains, or show those other teams that ashgrove rocks. Getting together to play soccer operates as a ministry to both the men and women of ashgrove, as well as to others involved in the game. It provides an opportunity to create and develop relationships with those on and off the field, and the chance to reflect not only a passion for soccer, but a passion for Christ.
