Taking the plunge #1

If you don't come from a Baptist background, you may wonder what baptism is all about. Over the next two weeks we are going to explore why people take the plunge.
In baptism...

We demonstrate what we believe...that Jesus died and rose again for me, and through Him and Him alone my relationship with God is restored; my sin is forgiven and I am made new (cf Rom 6:1-10)

We demonstrate a humble heart and a desire to follow Jesus through simple obedience.

Why should I consider baptism?
  • Because Jesus commanded the church to Baptise his disciples - Matthew 28:18-20
  • Because the bible has important teaching on Baptism that I need to know - 2 Timothy 3:16
  • Because baptism has great significance for my life as a Christian. - 1 Peter 3:21

'By our baptism, then, we were buried with him and shared his death, in order that, just as Christ was raised from death by the glorious power of the Father, so also we might live a new life.' Romans 6:4 (GNB)

Why not?

Because of what baptism demonstrates we encourage all who believe in the Lord to be baptised. And while we acknowledge everyone has their own story, and there are a variety of traditions concerning baptism, the question for us at ashgrove is not so much why a person should be baptised, but why shouldn't they?
