Time with Tim
This week we catch up with Tim Sweetman to see how he is going in the new role of Team Leader - Care and Children.
What changes have been made to your previous role?
I used to be purely kids ministry, but now am Team Leader - Care as well. So I now oversee welcoming and pastoral care volunteers. My role involves me keeping a tab on who is around, finding out who is sick or hurting, and just checking to see that they are ok. It is about caring for our church family.
As I am now looking after Care as well as Kids, my hours at ashgrove have increased. I now work five days - Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday and Sunday.
So how are you settling in to the new role?
I am loving it! I love having just the one job, and being able to come back to ashgrove the next day and pick up from the previous day.
One of the good things about this new role is the pastoral care - I have been spending as much time as possible trying to meet people and really get to know the church family. I am also really enjoying working with Lorrie and Helen, and transitioning with them.
Care is really all about getting to know people, and listening out for people in a bit of need, then working out how to love them and help them.
What is your vision for care?
Well I would really like to work on how we are encouraging the men in our church. Plus I want to explore people's journey to become integrated in the place - to work out pathways for newcomers to get connected. And obviously to make sure we are loving people, in the intense times and every day.
What is your vision for kids?
Kids ministry will continue as it has, with JAM and fuel. One new thing we are working on is the Kids Hope Oz Mentoring program with Ashgrove State School. I believe this is a real opportunity to further relationships with kids and their families.
ashgrove's vision for kids ministry really is to introduce kids from church and the community to Jesus and to help families. We want to minister to the family unit and see whole families blessed and transformed.
